TIPS FOR ATTENDING THE 1ST EVER
BIG BEAR LAKE JAZZTRAX FESTIVAL ON JUNE 18TH

Hey, thanks for coming to our First Ever Big Bear Lake JazzTrax Festival. Before we make this a full weekend event in 2006 with full festival shows from Friday through Sunday, June 16, 17, 18, NEXT YEAR, here’s some tips on making this your first Big Bear Festival Experience the absolute best.

All festival goers upon arrival at Snow Summit in Big Bear will ride the Chairlift to the top of the mountain natural hillside amphitheatre in the pines. This envelope includes a Chairlift Disclaimer. You must fill this out and hand it over before anyone can board the chairlift. You are assuming the risk of riding a chairlift. All hand rails must be pulled down as you ride the chair. If you lose this disclaimer, you will have to get another upon arrival. Having it ready and already filled out will help the chairlifts move faster. No food or drinks can be taken on the chairlift. There will be full far and a barbecue blazing at the top during the festival. Also because of having to accommodate the loading and unloading of possibly up to a thousand festival goers, the chairlifts cannot accommodate any beach chairs, or backpacks, any anything more than minimal that is extraneous. This is also for your safety along with keeping the people flow moving, going up, and coming down. Small camera’s are allowed, but no professional or video camera’s and no recorders. Those with Club Section Tickets will have a beach chair waiting for them. Those with Table Seats will have their tables waiting for them. Those with General Admission can bring a beach towel to sit on. No umbrellas….they will block site lines.
Your ticket only accommodates going up the chairlift once and coming down once. Extra trips will cost you an extra chairlift charge…do not leave anything, like sunscreen in the car.

There should be full sunshine above the June Gloom, and you will be at between 7 and 8 thousand feet, so sunscreen is very highly suggested, and perhaps hats and caps. Otherwise, if Mother Nature is normal, it should be 75 to 85 degrees, although you might bring a sweater or light jacket for late afternoon. Casual attire is highly recommended, shorts are fine, but most important is comfy walking shoes. This amphitheatre is a natural hillside and you may be walking up or down the slope to reach a bathroom or bar. You will be walking down the slope to your seat.

This event is rain or shine. It is highly unlikely there will be weather, it is Southern California, but it is the mountains. Rain or shine.

We HIGHLY recommend you try and arrive at ll a.m.
Chairlifts 1 and 2 will be operating, but if the entire crowd shows up at Noon, there will be long lines waiting up upload. There are no refunds for missing part of the first show because of lift lines, THEREFORE please aim at arriving an hour early to avoid lift lines. There are incredible vista views across the top of the concert site of Mt. San Gorgonio and Mt. Baldy and Big Bear Lake below. You can take pictures, eat, and drink, from ll a.m. on. before the first show starts at High Noon with Steve Oliver, followed by Steve Cole, followed by the Southern California Premiere of ‘Forever For Always For Luther,’ with Lalah Hathaway, Kirk Whalum, Brian Culbertson & Paul Jackson Jr.

Half the audience, the Beach Chair Club Section, will stay on the mountain at the conclusion of ‘Forever For Always For Luther’. This is to stagger the audience departure down the 2 chairlifts. This is one time you might consider leaving before the encore if you want to immediately download. This is an exciting, yet unusual situation where when the show is over, everyone has 2 chairlifts to go down. Therefore, the half of the audience in the beach chairs have tickets to an After Party in the View Haus Lodge, just down the knoll, at the top of Chairlift l. If you do attend that after party, you might even keep an eye on the Chairlift line on Chairlift l and depart the party when you see there is little or no line. Obviously everyone cannot depart at the same exact time.

We are in a National Forest where quite apparently smoking is seriously restricted. We are working with them to provide a deck or a smoking pit, for smokers, for total safety to the forest and the community. Do Not Smoke on the Chairlifts or anywhere it is not allowed. You could jeopardize the future of this festival and much much more if you do.

Everyone is invited to Nottingham’s. The official Village restaurant and bar for this festival. Corner of Pine Knot & Big Bear Blvd., attached to the Robin Hood Inn. There is no cover charge. Friday Night is our pre-festival party there starring San Diego Saxophonist Mark Lessman.
Saturday Night is our after party for everyone there, again with Mark Lessman. The hours of his performance both evenings are "expected" to be 8 to ll p.m. The famous Knickerbocker Mansion is offering a Sunday Jazz Brunch. www.knickerbockermansion.com. And again, in 2006, the festival itself will double in number of shows.
